YANKEE STADIUM: BASEBALL'S CATHEDRAL

BURY IT IN FENWAY

By DAVID DAY

DVD_YankeeStadium

I must admit, I still find it hard to believe they are replacing Yankee Stadium, perhaps the most iconic building in all of American sports. Even the title calls this a "cathedral"—and we never demo cathedrals. So as the Yankees falter in the years ahead (they're fucked as long as A-Rod is wearing pinstripes ... and banging Madonna), I imagine there will be much regret in knocking it down. Here Chazz Palminteri narrates a tear-tugging look at the 85-year history of the park; a history which will culminate at the All-Star game. Bonus features include Lou Gehrig's legendary speech, a tour of Yankee Stadium and, ugh, the 11th inning of the 2003 ALDS Game 7. Yankee Stadium: "The house Ruth built, and the house that A-Rod tore down." Can't wait for someone to YouTube the demo video.

Rooooll call!Rooooll call! So, the roll call vote feels more like a game show than a democratic process. It basically goes like this:

Secretary Alice Germond (the host in our little metaphor), says the name of the state, and the giant screen behind her sports the state's name, and how many votes it's been afforded.

"State," says Germond.

Night Two of Pageantry

By CaraBayles on Wed, Aug 27, 2008 2:48 pm

On Monday night, your trusty Dig reporter was relegated to the press gallery, and spent an hour and a half trying to find the damn booth for rotating floor credentials, being sent up and down the stairs, getting a different answer from every DNCC staffer. It made my thighs slightly stronger and the ball of rage in my stomach significantly heavier. It made me wonder how the Dems would run a country, when they can't credential a reporter. But last night I found the magic booth and got onto the floor, so all is forgiven.
