JIMMY CARTER MAN FROM PLAINS

OPENS 11.2

By JENNA SCHERER

TP_JimmyCarterLG

It's hard to say anything bad about Jimmy Carter. He's so cuuuute! And old! And peace-mongery! Awwww!!! But with worshipful text flitting across the screen ("One former president ... has become the conscience of a nation"), it looks like Jonathan Demme may have taken things too far. The camera follows our jowly former prez on a book tour, of all things, for his controversial Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. Perhaps Carter has earned his own personal celluloid shrine; but should we have to pay to see it? Can't it just be, like, a public service announcement or something?

Health and Human Services Public Hearing

“One of the most heart breaking things for me is the great number of homeless veterans,” said Ralph Cooper, executive director of Veterans Benefits Clearinghouse. “As you can tell, I’m getting older and my gray hair tells the truth. You can’t imagine how painful it is for me to talk with men and women who served in Vietnam, men and women who are young, coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq and they are homeless. How disgraceful is that?”
