THE ACCIDENTAL HUSBAND | OPENS 8.22.08

This film comes out several times a year, always with the same sorry premise. A handsome single father, in this case a firefighter (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), loses his fiancé due to advice she gets from call-in love expert (Uma Thurman). He tries to exact revenge on the radio host, meanwhile falling in love with her. In the midst of all this chaos, Thurman's character is also planning her own wedding. Thurman must choose whom she truly loves, the sophisticated, refined schmuck or the goofy, firefighting schmuck with a funny accent. You won't want to miss this nail-biter.

BURN AFTER READING | OPENS 9.12.08

It looks like everyone in Hollywood lined up to be in the Coen Brothers new comedy. Burn After Reading stars Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand. Pitt and McDormand work in a gym and stumble across a disc chock-full of top-secret CIA shit. The two hatch a scheme to blackmail Malkovich for the files. A seemingly sex-crazed Clooney becomes involved in the scheme as well. The entire cast turns against each other and they duke it out steel-cage style. I just hope there's a scene with John Malkovich and Brad Pitt pumping iron together. This is the first Coen brothers film without Roger Deakins since Barton Fink.

CHOKE | OPENS 9.26.08

Sam Rockwell plays sex addict/historical interpreter (tour guide of Colonial Williamsburg) Victor Mancini in this, the latest adaptation of a Chuck Palahniuk novel. Rockwell, unsurprisingly, can charm the pants off any lady (except, surprise twist!, the one he really likes) and when it comes to family, mum (Angelica Huston) is number one. In the condensed two-minute, 10-second trailer, there are enough references to getting busy: sex in a bathroom stall (possibly mile high club), fellow addict sex, doctor sex and bookend scenes in a strip club, one might develop a complex themselves after watching.

“One of the most heart breaking things for me is the great number of homeless veterans,” said Ralph Cooper, executive director of Veterans Benefits Clearinghouse. “As you can tell, I’m getting older and my gray hair tells the truth. You can’t imagine how painful it is for me to talk with men and women who served in Vietnam, men and women who are young, coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq and they are homeless. How disgraceful is that?”
