So last night I spot a police officer speedwalking past my window. Up the block I see an apparent suspect (possibly breaking into someone's car) back up against the wall as about 6 officers encircle him. Doesn't seem like anything too exciting, I'm just looking to make sure it wasn't my car, when all of a sudden this guy bolts. Not sure what made him think this was a good exit strategy, but off he goes... maybe he ran track in high school? He made it all of about 10 yards before he is thrown to the ground and pounced upon. I mean, sure I've seen some out of shape cops around the city in my day, but 6 officers... Out of the 6 officers that are hanging around you, you are confident you can outrun all of them? 6.

Rooooll call!So, the roll call vote feels more like a game show than a democratic process. It basically goes like this:

Secretary Alice Germond (the host in our little metaphor), says the name of the state, and the giant screen behind her sports the state's name, and how many votes it's been afforded.

"State," says Germond.

Night Two of Pageantry

On Monday night, your trusty Dig reporter was relegated to the press gallery, and spent an hour and a half trying to find the damn booth for rotating floor credentials, being sent up and down the stairs, getting a different answer from every DNCC staffer. It made my thighs slightly stronger and the ball of rage in my stomach significantly heavier. It made me wonder how the Dems would run a country, when they can't credential a reporter. But last night I found the magic booth and got onto the floor, so all is forgiven.
