FREE BLACK LIPS CONCERT IN WORCESTER, MA! 9/20

By jkb4388 on Wed, Sep 12, 2007 5:22 pm

The Black Lips w/ The Selmanaires Thursday, September 20th The Grind at Clark University- 950 Main Street, Worcester, MA 8:30pm FREE! Anyone can come! The infamous Black Lips are touring to promote the release of their upcoming album Good Bad Not Evil. The Black Lips are known for their wild stage antics and "after their debut in 2000 soon developed a reputation as one of the Peach State's wildest bands" (boston.com). ROLLING STONE said of their previously released live album recorded in Mexico: Atlanta rockabilly punks the Black Lips are one of the best live bands in America, a fact they prove on their debut for Vice Records, Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevo. This twelve-song sonic apocalypse -- recorded live, as the story goes, at a mariachi club in Tijuana -- serves as an excellent introduction to these debauched rockers, who already have three albums out on various small labels. Tracks like "Dirty Hands" and "Stranger," with their elegantly layered vocal harmonies and deranged sock-hop vibe, showcase the Black Lips' classic pop sensibility. Rougher, messier inclusions like the terrifically catchy "Boomerang" and the frenetic, naughty "Fairy Stories" (on which the band members collectively coo, "My daddy has a gun/It's not a toy but it's loads of fun") remind listeners that the Black Lips are one disturbed collection of twenty-two-year-old dudes. Unlike an actual Black Lips show, Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevo won't leave you covered in any bodily fluids, but otherwise it's just as good. -ROLLINGSTONE.com This band just keeps getting bigger and bigger so see 'em while you still can...and it's FREE!!!!

Tales Pre-party

By pinklady on Wed, Jul 16, 2008 12:24 pm

Before dinner MiMi, Em, and I (Pink Lady) head down to the Carousel Bar for Vieux Carres and to meet up with Hanky Panky and Barbara West. The Carousel Bar spins in the center of the room, so to chat with these seated gals, we have to march slowly around the room with them. We're doing the "Carousel Crawl." It looks impossibly silly.

On our way...

Tuesday LUPEC hits the road for Tales!

6:45 a.m. ET: Ouch. We arrive at the airport. Mimi, Pink Lady, and longtime friend, Em are traveling together on Jet Blue. We’ve had a collective 8 hours of sleep between the 3 of us and are in desperate need of coffee.

Activists, lobbyists and legislators rally to cut emissions

By Scott Sayare on Thu, Jul 3, 2008 2:13 pm

A crowd of about a hundred ex-hippie environmentalists, optimistic lobbyists, state congressmen in ties and business suits, and concerned citizens from five to 75 crowded the State House steps yesterday in support of the Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA). Armed with posters, megaphones, and an acoustic guitar, they called for the House of Representatives to vote on and pass the far-reaching carbon emissions bill, which has already been approved by the state senate.
