By jonbern on Thu, Jul 10, 2008 10:06 pm

This show sounds amazing. Guitar legend Bill Frisell and saxophonist Daniel Bennett play a double bill at the Cambridge YMCA Theatre on August 16. Frisell only comes through Boston once a year or so. I hear that he is doing a solo set. And Bennett will be releasing his newest CD that night too. I found the info at www.bennettalliance.com that's Daniel Bennett's production company. anyone else going?

By jonbern on Thu, May 8, 2008 9:43 am

The fifth installment of the Bennett Alliance Concert Series has arrived! On May 31, two well known Boston bands will play a double bill at the restored Cambridge Family YMCA Theatre. Zyrah's Orange brings their groove flavored rock, and saxophonist Daniel Bennett will bring his minimalist trance quartet to the stage. The concert starts at 8pm and admission is just $10 ($7 with a student ID). "Avante-Folk" Saxophonist Daniel Bennett is most known for his trance-inducing musical mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism. Bennett has traveled the country, performing at venues like Lincoln Center, Merrill Auditorium, Eastman Theatre, George Eastman House, Jordan Hall, Hale Auditorium, Open Fest, Six Flags Darien Lake, and the Rochester Lilac Festival. The Daniel Bennett Group has shared concert stages with the Charlie Hunter Trio, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin and Wood), David Fiuczynski (Screaming Headless Torsos), Denison Witmer, and LA-based synthpop group Joy Electric. In April of 2007, the Daniel Bennett Group released the epic full length album, A Nation of Bears on the Bennett Alliance label. Bennett will be joined by longtime bandmates Brant Grieshaber (Guitar), John Servo (Bass), and Rick Landwehr (Percussion). Visit www.danielbennett.net for more info! Zyrah's Orange is the brainchild of well known Boston guitarist Elliot Page. Elliot is also the owner of Boston's leading community music school, Page Music Lesson Center. Zyrah's Orange can be heard all over the country performing in clubs, festivals, and on the radio. The band released the critically acclaimed A Space to Call Your Own in 2007. Zyrah's Orange brings a bold mix of ambient rock and instrumental offerings. Visit www.zyrahsorange.com for more info! By jonbern on Mon, Oct 15, 2007 10:42 pm

The Bennett Alliance in Boston is very busy these days.  The production company, run by "avante-folk" saxophonist Daniel Bennett, runs the ongoing Bennett Alliance Concert Series at the restored Cambridge YMCA Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  On December 7, the fourth installment of the Bennett Alliance Concert Series will feature world-renowned drummer Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin, & Wood) and saxophonist Daniel Bennett.  The Boston jazz scene has been buzzing about this unique double-bill show.  Billy Martin will be joined by master percussionist Calvin Weston and Daniel Bennett will bring his drummer-less trance music to the stage.  The show starts at 7:30pm and admission is just $10.  The YMCA Theatre is located at 820 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. I have worked for Bennett Alliance for some time now.  I would love to hear from fellow jazz heads who will be at the show!

Tales Pre-party

By pinklady on Wed, Jul 16, 2008 12:24 pm

Before dinner MiMi, Em, and I (Pink Lady) head down to the Carousel Bar for Vieux Carres and to meet up with Hanky Panky and Barbara West. The Carousel Bar spins in the center of the room, so to chat with these seated gals, we have to march slowly around the room with them. We're doing the "Carousel Crawl." It looks impossibly silly.

Tuesday LUPEC hits the road for Tales!

6:45 a.m. ET: Ouch. We arrive at the airport. Mimi, Pink Lady, and longtime friend, Em are traveling together on Jet Blue. We’ve had a collective 8 hours of sleep between the 3 of us and are in desperate need of coffee.

Activists, lobbyists and legislators rally to cut emissions

By Scott Sayare on Thu, Jul 3, 2008 2:13 pm

A crowd of about a hundred ex-hippie environmentalists, optimistic lobbyists, state congressmen in ties and business suits, and concerned citizens from five to 75 crowded the State House steps yesterday in support of the Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA). Armed with posters, megaphones, and an acoustic guitar, they called for the House of Representatives to vote on and pass the far-reaching carbon emissions bill, which has already been approved by the state senate.
