So I wrote a blog...

By morgan310 on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 5:26 pm

So I just wrote this whole blog about Obama's inauguration festivities and it was humorous and funny and I went to submit it....

Poof! Gone. Disappeared.

So now, I must rant. I'm kind of annoyed. I'm not a big blog writer, but writing one for the Dig, well, I really don't mind. Writing one in my spare time...I mind. I don't think I have anything that interesting to say on a day to day basis that the internet community needs to know right away. I also feel like my wittiness doesn't come across so well on a webpage. Moreso in person, I would like to think.

In my journalism class last semester, my professor brought a blog expert in. I revealed my true feelings of Twitter, pretty much speaking for the whole class: what's the point? This man, a professional blogger, kind of flipped out. It's his livelihood, people pay him blah blah...yes yes sir, I understand but really, what's the point? Who needs to know what you are doing every six seconds. In fact, who the hell cares? People are so wrapped up in themselves they believe that other people are truly interested in what they ate for breakfast or what their inner thoughts are in regards to...oh, i don't know...fruitcake or something ridiculous along those lines.

I'm getting anxiety just writing about this right now. I am really not sure why blogs anger me so much. In another class we discussed whether or not shield laws for journalists should protect bloggers. I say no. Journalists have a degree and learn their trade. I'm spending four years in school and a ton of money to become a journalist and then to group some whiney emo bastard on the internet who has lots of feelings with ME? I don't think so. People can get mad at this, people can say, oh mah gooood bloggers are journalists, too.

Here's my response: whatever.

Any idiot can sign up at wordpress or livejournal or whatever. You need a resume and a job interview to be a journalist.

I think I need to end this before my chest cavity implodes and my head spins off.

You seem to raise some really good points here. I linked to your insightful post on my blog. As you can tell, I'm pretty much a rank amateur, but I'm willing to take notes if you have any pointers to spare me.
