ANNERHODES is a vocalist based in New Haven, CT. She holds a B.M. in VoicePerformance from Boston University, and an M.A. in Experimental MusicPerformance from Wesleyan University. Anne specializes in collaborating withcomposers and improvisation, using extended vocal techniques while relyingheavily on her classical training. She has performed with Portland OperaRepertory Theatre, the Crane School of Music Opera Ensemble, the BostonUniversity Chamber Choir, the New England Conservatory Continuing EducationOpera Studio, MIT Gilbert and Sullivan Players, the Anthony Braxton LargeEnsemble, the FLUX Quartet, Mirror Boiyz, and Connecticut Opera, and haspremiered works by composers including Anthony Braxton, Neil Leonard, Taylor HoBynum, and Alvin Lucier.Rhodes is a member of the New Haven ImprovisorsCollective.
CARLTESTA is a composer and instrumentalist based in New Haven, CT and New YorkCity. Originally from Chicago, Testa studied music with Donn DeSanto, at the Uof C Lab School, as well as at the Association for the Advancement of CreativeMusicians (AACM) School of Music. He studied music and sociology at WesleyanUniversity with Anthony Braxton, Neely Bruce, Alvin Lucier, Ron Kuivila,Charles Lemert, and performed with Anthony Braxton, Aaron Siegel, Anne Rhodes,Angela Opell, Andrew Raffo Dewar, Gergely Kiss, Dave Ruder, Daniel Raimi, DaveKadden, Philip Schulze, David Jensenius, and many others. Presently, he leadshis own groups, and is a key member of Anthony Braxton's ensemble. Testa'scompositional interests are focused on in writing for clarinet ensembles, forelectronics, for voice, and for multimedia events.
Bassist/composerBRUNO RÅBERG is originally from Sweden. At age 20 he moved to Stockholm to joinEje Thelin's band and stayed on for four years, recording and touringextensively. In 1981 Råberg relocated to the US to study with Miroslav Vitousat New Enland Conservatory. Råberg has performed throughout Europe, Asia,Africa, as well as North, South and Central America. He released 5 CDs as aleader and has performed with: Mick Goodrick, Matt Wilson, Bob Moses, JerryBergonzi, George Garzone, Yoron Israel, Billy Hart, Dick Oats, Stockholm JazzOrchestra, Bobo Stensson, Thomas Gustavsson, Sam Rivers, Julius Hemphil, JimBlack, Bruce Barth, Bob Mintzer, Greg Osby, Jackie Byard, Ran Blake, George Russell,Miroslav Vitous, Regina Carter, Antonio Hart, Billy Kilson, Gene Jackson, JohnMedeski, John LaPorta, John McNeil, Rachel Z, Donald Brown, Bill Pierce,Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra with David Baker. Råberg is a Professor at BerkleeCollege of Music.
Jazz andclassical saxophonist ALLAN CHASE has performed with Alan Dawson, Teddy Kotick,Mick Goodrick, Lewis Nash, Fred Hersch, and Andrew Cyrille. Chase’s debutrecording with his own quartet, Dark Clouds with Silver Linings, was chosen asone of the top ten jazz CDs of 1995 by critics for the Boston Globe, Jazziz,and the Boston Phoenix. His second CD, Phoenix, was released in 2000. From 1981to 1995, he was a member of Your Neighborhood Saxophone Quartet, which recordedsix CDs and performed on 10 European concert tours. Since 1992, Chase has beena member of Rashied Ali’s quintet, Prima Materia, and has recorded four CDswith him. He has also performed chamber music with Marimolin and the PrincetonComposers’ Ensemble. Chase has recorded with his own quartet and with GuntherSchuller, John Zorn, Dominique Eade, and Stanley Cowell, and has done studiorecordings for feature films, popular music records, television, radio, andadvertisements. Recordings on Coppens, Knitting Factory Works, Catalyst/BMG, Accurate,GM, Bridge, Cadence Jazz, YOUR Records, Northeastern.
TheCALLITHUMPIAN CONSORT is dedicated to the proposition that music is anexperience. Founded by pianist and conductor Stephen Drury in the late 1990's,we are an ensemble producing concerts of contemporary music at the higheststandard. The Consort consists of a senior band of long standing Thumpsoloists, but is fundamentally flexible in size and makeup, enabling the groupto tackle unusual repertoire in non-standard or larger chamber ensembles, or totake part in experimental projects. Our repertoire encompasses a hugestylistic spectrum, from the classics of the last 50 years to works of theavant-garde and experimental jazz and rock. Active commissioning and recordingof new works is crucial to our mission. We have worked with composers JohnCage, Lee Hyla, John Zorn, Michael Finnissy, Franco Donatoni, Lukas Foss, SteveReich, Helmut Lachenmann, John Luther Adams, Frederic Rzewski, Christian Wolffand many others. Recordings are available on Tzadik, New World and Moderecords.
JESSICAFELDMAN is an intermedia artist with a background in sound, sculpture andinstallation. She creates work that asks its audience to engage in dynamicrelationships with their physical surroundings, with each other, with largercommunities and with political questions. Recent pieces tend towardinteractivity and often occur in extremely public or extremely private spaces.She makes use of sculptural materials, video and choreographic practices inaddition to sound. Works have been performed, installed and exhibitedinternationally at art galleries, museums, concert halls, public parks, citystreets, tiny closets and the internet and at NYC venues such as The Kitchen,Roulette, The Stone, The Tank, MonkeyTown and Tenri Cultural Institute. Herwork has received grants/awards from the LMCC, the Max Kade Foundation,Columbia University, Meet the Composer and the Experimental Television Center,among others.
NEILLEONARD works as a sound artist, composer and saxophonist. His ensemble hasfeatured Marshall Allen (Director of the Sun Ra Arkestra), Bruce Barth, UriCaine, Don Byron, Kenwood Dennard, Robin Eubanks, Frank Lacy, Oriente Lopez,Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and Uri Caine. Leonard’s Dreaming of an Island, fororchestra, electronics and video was premiered by the Indianapolis ChamberOrchestra. Leonard's composition Totems was premiered at Carnegie Recital Hallby Byron and Caine. Leonard compositions were featured in festivals in Europe,North America, Africa, Middle East, Japan and the Caribbean. Leonard'scollaborative work with visual artist Magdalena Campos-Pons was featured by the49th Venice Biennial and MOMA, NY. Leonard has recorded for ECM, A&M,Accurate and Interval Recordings. Leonard is co-owner of Gallery Artist StudioProject (GASP). Leonard is a Professor at Berklee College of Music, and taughtsound installation at the University of Padova and the C. Pollini Conservatory,Italy.
