George Foreman

Defend yourself!

George Foreman's personality is as big as his heavyweight frame. Aside from an Olympic gold medal and a home-grilling empire, he's got a shoe line, a TV show, a health shake and a ministry in Houston. In town promoting UFood Grill, a health-conscious fast food joint, Foreman gave me the bare bones on his food faves and family life.

<B>

YOU'VE GOT A LOT OF KIDS.

Yes. Ten kids.

SO WHO STOCKS THE FRIDGE?

My wife, Mary. She does everything. All we do is show up and eat. But I'm the grill person. I do a lot of cooking at home.

ARE YOU SELF-TAUGHT?

You know, I was heavyweight champion of the world in the 1970s, and I had hangers-on like nothing. I announced in 1977 that I was out of boxing and within a year I lost every friend I had. I was so sad; they'd followed me because of boxing. Then I got into the church world and sometimes people'd stop by the house and I'd fix food. I'd see them lickin' their fingers, and after a while they loved me—it was, 'Hey, let's go to George's and get some food.' I started mustering up all sorts of recipes, barbecuing and things of that nature, and then later on I came up with the George Foreman Grill and I really became an expert. People love me now, not for boxing but because of the grill.

DO YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF BEEF WITH THE STOVE?

I love both. The grill is my favorite thing to use, but I like baking and broiling. I love anything with a hint of healthy eating. And cooking with spices.

WHO'D WIN IN A FIGHT: STEAK OR CHICKEN?

Steak would knock chicken out of sight.

Ok, so the current plan is take all the money that we were going to spend helping the automakers become viable ongoing businesses, and shovel it over right now. (i.e. down the drain)

Michael Moore right for once

By dayvidday on Thu, Nov 20, 2008 12:23 pm

Most people know my disdain for Michael Moore (to sum up: if the right ever considered him dangerous, he would have died mysteriously some time ago), but his father worked at GM for 35 years and the man did make the excellent Roger and Me.
