Central Square | Red Line

Glamour, paramour, on the dancefloor

By LIGAYA TICHY

One of the neat things about being a yelper is being privy to the wonderful, zany little worlds of others.

Enter: Central Square. With the myriad of fine eateries in strolling distance from the T, residents of this nabe are undeniably spoiled rotten. Take heed of Meghan H, where "mannequins, pirates, prom dresses, pinup girls, feathers and frill, wedding cakes, high heels ... and beautiful food and glamorous drinks" at Cuchi Cuchi [795 Main St., Cambridge. 617.864.2929. cuchicuchi.cc] is every woman and drag queen's wet dream.

Talk all the smack you want about the replacement of Burger King with four-star Mediterranean-inspired Rendezvous [502 Mass. Ave., Cambridge. 617.576.1900. rendezvouscentralsquare.com]), but Lauren L still gushes about the cuisine and reassures, "this place renewed my hope for good food."

Looking to cultivate a little romancin'? Then consider Baraka Café mecca [80 1/2 Pearl St., Cambridge. 617.868.3951. barakacafe.com]. Their delectable North African eats will have you doing lapping nose dives into the bowl. Heck, it moved Erica S to a state of ecstasy. But instead, if it's peace you seek, try the tremendous Tibetan tastes of Rangzen [24 Pearl St., Cambridge. 617.354.8881], where Coelie A's lunch "turned out to be more of a spiritual recharge."

When the urge to shake a leg strikes, search for the door emblazoned with a red elephant. Ascend to tiny Moroccan-themed Enormous Room [567 Mass Ave., Cambridge. 617.491.5550. enormous.tv], which cynosure Ellie L explains "is like going to a house party, except with better music, creative drinks and no one's uptight neighbors are going to call the police and spoil your fun." How's that for motivation to cross the bridge?

Health and Human Services Public Hearing

“One of the most heart breaking things for me is the great number of homeless veterans,” said Ralph Cooper, executive director of Veterans Benefits Clearinghouse. “As you can tell, I’m getting older and my gray hair tells the truth. You can’t imagine how painful it is for me to talk with men and women who served in Vietnam, men and women who are young, coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq and they are homeless. How disgraceful is that?”
