Dear Reader

By Laura Dargus

Dear Reader,

This past week, some of you learned a little about where I'm from. The desert can be a hard place—it's not all sunsets and golf. I came to Boston in 2001 and was never without company when it came to watching the Diamondbacks go on to beat the Yankees in the World Series. After being embraced by a town whose hate for all things New York is trumped only by its staunch team loyalty, I was hoping Arizona could have hosted another NY ass-whupping for the Pats, but alas.

Despite dejected spirits here at Dig HQ, this week's book is jammed with ample distraction. Christine Liu serves up a dim sum death match, Ted Siefer takes a look into construction site quotas, Wildman admits to liking Colin Farrell and David Day very professionally and non-amorously talks with Keren Ann for a Boston exclusive interview.

Speaking of love: Get your Valentine's Day one-liners in. Submit them to love@weeklydig.com, and your horny thoughts will be anonymously published all over Boston in our February 13th issue. Think about it, putting your declarations of amour within these pages is one half step above missed connections.

You know, I have a little love note myself that I'd like to pass on now, if you'll oblige:
Someone who helped pave my way to the Dig (and who has influenced many a young person in this city) is leaving town. She's encouragement, kindness and delight all wrapped in one and she'll be missed terribly. Donovan, you're a badass, Godspeed.

Well, that'll conclude this week's installment of Dear Reader. Join us next time for innumerous reasons why love sucks and where you can go when every restaurant in town is full. And, if you're still feeling low come V-day, you can always raise a glass of Patrón and toast the youngest continental US state's 96th birthday. Adios!

Copeland/ I Can Make A Mess at Middle East 3/6/10

The Middle East is a great venue when it's kind of full--but it can be a mess when it's completely sold out.

Surfer Blood & Turbo Fruits

By ioncrash on Mon, Mar 8, 2010 5:26 pm None-too-shockingly, Jonas Stein of Turbo Fruits (formerly of Be YourOwn Pet) turns out to be a pretty chill guy. After all, the dude’s written more songs about weed than I care to list right now.
