Um, actually, it was "cockface." Way to read the review.
Weekly Dig,
Although music reviews in general do not require a commitment to journalistic objectivity, Debbie Driscoll's canning of Girl Talk's new album, Feed the Animals (CD Reviews, 7.2.08) is nothing more than a platform to spout anger at artists with artistic ideals that she clearly does not share. OK, she doesn't like the idea of pure sampling as an art form. Well, did she listen to the music? Or is a sentence's worth of ideology nobler and more important than doing the job she is supposed to do (which, to make things perfectly clear, is to let the audience know why this particular album deserves a verdict of "Explicit Hatred")?
I know Driscoll had only a small amount of space to express the incredible amount anger she has inside of her, but hey, mention the quality of the ALBUM ITSELF! The way the music intertwines, the twists in the sampling, the layering! "Hyper-micronic?" It's supposed to be. "Totally annoying?" Is that the best she can do? She doesn't need to be objective, she just needs to write an actual review.
Lester Bangs canned and praised artists and music based on his ideology all the time. But he also listened to it, thought about it (the music, not the artist behind the music) and wrote intelligent responses to the feelings the music itself evoked. Then again, maybe I shouldn't use Lester Bangs as an example. He was a genius. Way to use the word "cockhead," Debbie Driscoll. You're a hack.

See? He got it right!
In your weekly roundup of music last week, you took it upon yourself to shit all over the new Girl Talk album, going so far as to call him a "cockface" for charging for his music. Unfortunately, I think the shit you're spewing from your mouth onto print got stuck in your eye because Feed the Animals is available for free, legally, online.
Rather than unabashedly bitching about the "totally annoying, hyper-micronic mash-ups," consider writing about the growing trend of artists releasing their albums for free. And while you pretentiously put quotation marks around the word music to prove that you recognize those songs from somewhere, obviously a feeble attempt at gaining street cred, ask yourself how many shitty rappers are sampling "In The Club" and going platinum.
